The Iberian Peninsula is too big for us to cycle everywhere we want to go in just a month. So we’re using trains a couple of times to help us get around. Today is our first train and it is a long day full of hitting our marks.
- Cycle from our hotel in Sevilla to the train station.
- Fold up our bikes and bag them.
- Lug them to the platform and load on train.
- Train two and a half hours to Madrid.
- Unload bikes, reassemble and ride 20 minutes to a different station to make our connection.
- Fold and bag our bikes again.
- Load bikes on train for two hour trip to Valladolid.
- Unload bikes and carry to different train.
- Load on train for one hour trip.
- Arrive in Salamanca at 8:30 p.m., put bikes together and ride 15 minutes to hotel.
Phew! We only ride six miles today, but it is in three major Spanish cities. The icing on the cake is that our hotel room is on the third floor and the elevator is too small for our bikes. We want to keep them secure so we end up carrying them up the stairs.
