Hiking the Coast to Coast —But First, a Stop in London

In 2023 we decide to take a late spring hike on the Coast to Coast Walk, a famous trail in Northern England that runs 192 miles from St. Bee’s on the west coast to Robin Hood’s Bay in the east. We go with Ken and Kim Howard, cousins who have been on several traveling adventures with us in the past. Most people take anywhere from a week (the crazy ones) to almost three weeks to complete it. We’re taking our time and going slowly. Some people camp (also the crazy ones), while others stay in inns or B&Bs along the way. We are doing the latter. In addition, we’ve hired a company to book all of the lodging in advance and to carry our belongings from one inn to the next each day.

We spend six days in London before taking the train to St. Bee’s.

Changing of the guard
We do many of the tourist standards, including the changing of the guard . . .
Coronation Chair
. . .Westminster Abbey, famous and overrun with fellow tourists, but we did enjoy seeing the Coronation Chair, a 700 year-old throne most recently used at the coronation of King Charles . . .
In front of Tower Bridge
. . . and the iconic Tower Bridge.
Fuller's Brewery
Those who know us will be surprised that it takes five days in England before we visit a brewery, but the tour through Fuller’s Brewery does not disappoint with its knowledgeable guide and several tasty samples. Tomorrow we’re off to St. Bee’s and the start of our 192-mile hike.
