30 Days Cycling Through France, Germany, and the Netherlands

Although we’ve done a lot of riding since our last cycling trip in Europe, especially since we moved to Phoenix in 2016, it wasn’t really until we retired in 2022 that we were able to begin planning more extended trips. This time it’s a 30-day bike trip through France, Germany and the Netherlands. After flying with our bikes from Kansas City, we spend a few days touring Paris, a city we haven’t visited since 2013. After Paris, we train to the southwest to Besançon to begin cycling on a route labeled Eurovelo 6.

Bikes in van
Our bikes, which are our transportation for the next month, are packed and ready to go to the airport.
Bike trail near Paris
The 20 mile ride from the Paris airport to our hotel in the center of the city is mostly on dedicated bike paths.
Breakfast
We have a typical breakfast (petit-déjeuner) our first morning in Paris: café, baguette, jus d’orange, butter and jam.
Eiffel Tower
A trip to Paris includes the obligatory photo of the Eiffel Tower.
Bikes on train
We roll our bikes on the train as we make our way to the start of our cycling trip in Besançon.
